Bu sabah Andy Beal’den kısa, fakat hoş bir yazı okudum, hemen paylaşmak istedim.

Yazısının başında Google’dan Matt Cutts’ın bir ifadesini hatırlatıyor, ve bu sözlerin Google’un algoritmasına sayfa yükleme hızı eklemek üzere olduğunun kanıtı olduğunu dile getiriyor.

Matt Cutts “Google Webmaster Tools” kullanarak sayfalarınızın ne kadar hızlı yüklendiğini görebileceğinizi, ve başkalarının sayfaları ile kıyasını da sundğuğnu anlatıyor. Amaçlarının sayfalarınızı hızlandırabilmeniz için veri ile desteklenmiş bilgi sunmak olduğunu ve gelecekte bu konuda onlardan haber beklememizi söylüyor.

Yazısının devamında Andy Beal Google’un hız faktörünü neden algoritmasına eklediğini soruyor, ve daha önce onlardan gelen bir ifade ile kendi sorusuna cevap veriyor. “Araştırmalar web sitenizin hızını arttırdığınızda ziyaretçileriniz web sitenizde daha fazla kalacak ve daha fazla etkileşime girecek, daha fazla para kazanacak, ve daha az maliyetli olacağını gösteriyor.”

Google REALLY Wants You to Speed Up Your Web Site

When Google’s Matt Cutts makes this statement on Twitter:

“This is important. Google provides webmaster tool to see how fast your site is…”

You can pretty much take to the bank that Google is getting ready to add site load speed to its complex search algorithm.

In fact, Cutts points us to this Google announcement:

On Site Performance, you’ll find how fast your pages load, how they’ve fared over time, how your site’s load time compares to that of other sites, examples of specific pages and their actual page load times, and Page Speed suggestions that can help reduce user-perceived latency. Our goal is to bring you specific and actionable speed information backed by data, so stay tuned for more of this in the future.

So, why is Google adding “speed” to its algorithm? The clue is given by Google:

Studies have repeatedly shown that speeding up your site leads to increased user retention and activity, higher revenue and lower costs.

Oh, you thought Google was talking about your revenues and costs? No, silly, it’s Google’s.

Buckminster Fuller Kimdir?

This confident assertion was made in 1980 by the late R. Buckminster Fuller–inventor, architect, engineer, mathematician, poet and cosmologist. As early as 1959, Newsweek reported that Fuller predicted the conquest of poverty by the year 2000.

In 1977, almost twenty years later, the National Academy of Sciences confirmed Fuller’s prediction. Their World Food and Nutrition Study, prepared by 1,500 scientists, concluded, “If there is the political will in this country and abroad… it should be possible to overcome the worst aspects of widespread hunger and malnutrition within one generation.”

Even with tragedies like Ethiopia and Somalia, it is becoming clear that, as Fuller predicted, we have arrived at the possibility of eliminating hunger and poverty in all the world within our lifetime.

Herkes İnglizce Sloganları Anlıyamıyabiliyor…

Eh, bu yazıyı tercüme etmeden paylaşmak biraz garip olurdu.

Almanya’da yaşayanların kaçı İnglizce reklam sloganlarını anladığını öğrenmek için, 14 ile 49 yaşları arasında olan 1000 kişinin katılımı ile, bir reklam araştırması yapıldı. Almanya’da reklamlarda İnglizce kelimeler kullanmak çok popüler. Alman Spiegel dergisinde yayınlanan habere göre, araştırmaya katılanların sadece bir çeyreği cıvarında insan pazarlamacının niyet ettiği şekilde mesajı anlamışlar. Anlaşılan etrafımızda çok anlaşılmazlık var. Opel firmasının “Explore the City Limits” pazarlama mesajı, “şehir hudutlarını araştır”, dolaş, gez anlamına gelmesine rağmen, “şehir sınırlarında patlamalar” olarak tercüme edilmiş (veya anlaşılmış). Google’un sahibi olduğu Youtube’un mesajı, “Broadcast Yourself”, Youtube’un Alman ana sayfasında da yer alıyor. İnglizcede “kendini yayınla” veya “kendin yayınla” olarak anlaşılan sloganı bazıları “kendini besle” olarak tercüme etmiş, bazılarıda “kendi ekmek kutunu kendin yap” olarak anlaşılmış.

Sanırım ana dili İnglizce olmayan tüm ülkelerde bu sorunlarla karşılaşılabilir. Eğer İnglizce kullanımı belli bir seviyenin üstünde olan bir kitleye ulaşmaya çalışmıyorsak, belkide ulaşmaya çalıştığımız insanların ana dilinde onlarla temas kurmaya çalışırsak daha verimli olacak. Zaten aynı dili konuşurken bile ulaşmaya çalıştığımız kişilerin kullandığı kelimeleri ve deyimleri kullandığımızda daha iyi dönüşümler elde etmiyor muyuz?

Not Everyone Understands English Slogans

An advertisement study conducted among over 1000 people from 14 to 49 years aimed to find out how many Germans understand English ad slogans. In Germany, using English words is very popular in advertising. There’s much confusion all around, it turned out according to a report by German Spiegel, with only around one quarter of all all surveyed people understanding the message as it was intended by the marketer. The Opel marketing message “Explore the City Limits” was sometimes translated to “Explosionen an der Stadtgrenze”, which translates back to “Explosions at the City Limits”. The slogan by Google-owned YouTube, “Broadcast Yourself”, also showing on the German YouTube homepage, some translated to “Feed Yourself”, as well as “Mache Deinen Brotkasten selbst” – “Create your own bread box”.

Five Germans in an Audi Quattro arrive at the Italian border. An Italian police officer stops them and says,

“Vot do you mean, it’s illegal ?” the German drivers asks.
“Quattro means four!” the policeman answers.

“You canta pulla thata one on me !” says the Italian policeman.

The German driver gets mad and shouts “You ideeiot !
Call ze zupervizor over! Schnell! I vant to spik to zum vun viz more intelligence!!!”
“Sorry” the Italian says, “He cantta comea.
He’sa buzy with a two guys in a Fiat Uno.”
